FAQ's from the Residents...
Here are some of the golden "What questions do you have?" answers that often come up during interview day that we hope can add a bit of information and context!

What is it actually like living in Danville?
Quiet, peaceful, joyful, and rural... but not remote. Will you have 18 different Tai restaurants to choose from? No, but we have two very awesome, family run ones 10 min away in Bloomsburg. Honestly, for a lot of us that came from cities, it was a transition, but you are so busy in residency, that the exploration into the bigger cities for games and culture is done on off weekends when we have the energy and time.

What is there to do?
What isn't there to do? Ok, if you want an NFL or NHL team down the street and want to go to games every week, this ain't the right place for that. BUT if you love nature, exploring one of the oldest states in the nation, and taking in some of the beautiful art, history, and culture of the area, it is quite fabulous. Lots of us head in to Philly or NYC about once a month for some more diverse entertainment and dining culture, but with the cost of living here... we can splurge a bit on those ;).

How far are you from Air Ports / What is it like to travel there?
That is on the other page, but:
Harrisburg: 1.5 hours
(10$ day parking)
Newark: 2.5 hours
(7-15$ day parking)
Philly: 2.5 hours
(20-30$ day parking)
Williamsport or Scranton: 1 hour
JFK / Laguardia: 3 hours (more expensive parking)

"Most of us travel internationally yearly if not every 2 years during residency, with the low cost of living here, you can save and splurge."

What is your Med-Peds Family like?
We asked the residents:
"Sassy, smart, chaotic good, and the best people to have around at any time!"
" Inspiring, Warm, Growing (mindset oriented)"
" Supportive, Driven, Compassionate."
"Community, Achievement, Curiosity."

What is something that really suprised you about the program?
"I was surprised about how much of an impact each resident can make on the program. If you have a goal and an idea of how to accomplish it, leadership will connect you with resources and work with you to make that goal a reality."
"The flexibility of our curriculum, leadership, and the institution as a whole."

What made you choose Geisinger?
"Alicia Laskowski."
" The people. " x 20
" Academic medical center with rural focus."
" I knew I would be a better person and doctor by coming here."
"The MATCH got it right."
" D.O.s highly regarded, lots of amazing primary care work and resources."
"It felt like home, I loved being in a small town with complex pathology... with residents and friends only steps away."

What do the alumni say after graduation... did it prepare them well?
Training offered me:
"Flexibility by design, keys to communication with everyone, it was hard but not impossible and totally worth it, would do again."

How is Mentorship?
At all times you have 3 mentors working for and with you:
- Your APD, provides whole-person guidance and in the first two years you meet monthly to discuss goals, clinical progress, etc.
- Your BIG, intern and 2nd year you have an assigned 3rd and 4th year who helps you with everything clinical and resident-wise. Marshall's big is now a PGY2 fellow in GI and he still calls her for things.
- Your career mentors, we always will hook you up with a mentor (MedPeds or not) who is doing what you want to do and we protect time to meet with them!
